Goodnight Nobody, Goodnight Mush

Hi. I’m Beege. I’ve just wandered over from Blogspot…I like it here, better–nicer templates, for starters.

I’m the insanely proud mother of a tiny girl who is about to turn two-and-a-half. She is my Mini-Me. Except where she’s her father’s Mini-Him. She’s a good blend of both of us, I think.

I spend quite a lot of time reading books to her. Or rather, I spend quite a lot of time reading a few select books to her. Right now her favorites are anything that causes me to cast my face up to the heavens and sob, “No. Can’t we read something else? Please?! We read that all the ti-i-i-i-i-ime! To which my angelic fiend will plant her heels, put her hands on her hips and say, “We don’t listen to whining in this house. Read the book.”  It’s hell having your words parroted back to you, people. Hell, I say.

She’s also wicked smart. Talks like a four year old. They want to move her up a year in preschool because she’s so advanced. I have deeply mixed feelings on this. I’m sure I’ll share more in the coming days as I write through what exactly I think about that idea. As it is, my Beloved M is forbidden to mention anything of this to his mother. If she knew about it, all her wacky-ass over-acheiving insanity that made M’s growing up a living hell would be unleashed on Sweetie Pea. I can’t protect my baby from much, but I can protect her from that.

And, I suppose, if the only thing I protect her from in her life is the insanity of her relatives I won’t be doing half bad!

  1. I’ve been wondering how you were doing…busy with work, I suppose. Yesterday I saw a little blonde girl with bangs named Kirsten and for some reason I thought of you & mini-you.

  2. Alright, so I have a bizzaro question. How do you pronounce your name? In my head, I’ve been saying it (I suppose) phonetically. See, *my mom* is a Barbara, but in college, there were 3 girls named Barbara in her soroity, so they all went by their initials (God Bless poor Barb Olsen), so my mom was BJ. My dad still calls her this today (he also refers to my brother & I by our initials, all 3, which is some strange sign of adulthood, because it didn’t start happening until sometime right around graduation from highschool… but I digress). So, because my mom is BJ (beej) that’s how I’ve been saying your name in my head. Long story for a simple question. I’m like that.

  3. Beege! You jumped to WordPress. I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing. I’m getting really annoiyed with Blogger’s unreliable picture posting service. And I LOVE the way your new page looks. Do they have templates premade, or can you design them yourself? And I see you were able to transpose your Blogger archives with no problem. Excellent. Let me know how you like it. And thanks again for visiting Professor Kelp’s quiz. Your answers were most welcome. I just got back from Eugene and had a great time, and will be taking the wife and kids up to the Oregon Coast in September. I’ll take more pix and share ‘em, I promise.

  4. Jess: Could you please send me the recipe for Lipstick Granola Cruncher cookies and the chocolate pecan pie recipe I sent you last winter? I can’t find either of those recipes and they are two of my favorites!

Linnea: You’re right on the money. “Beege” is pronounced “Beej”. :)

Dennis! You found me! :) I’m really liking WordPress so far. This template was a premade one, and I’m really pleased with it. There were several templates I was trying to choose from, but this one won. Blogger has ugly templates, when you get right down to it. And it was SUPER easy to transfer all my Blogger archives over. I just clicked a link and the program did all the work!

  5. I looked at WordPress.com and got a little overwhelmed, but I suppose when I do have a chance to sit down and look at it with calmer eyes it’ll start to make sense… I hope. You’;re right– Blogger’s templates are not so good looking and kinda dull, and after two years of that green I’m really ready for something a little more customized. We’ll see what happoens. I may call on you for advice!

  6. Love what you’ve done with the place, Beege. I’d been missing reading your blog…so.glad you’re back! I was afraid you’d been buried alive with your new job.

  7. I HAVE been hugely busy at work. I seem to have gotten myself a boss who believes that “salaried management” means that I’m available any and all hours of the day–so I’ve been working 9, 10, 11 hour days. When I’m home, I’m all about hanging out with the family, which doesn’t leave much time for blogging. But I’ve missed it, and it’s good to know I’ve been missed, too! :)

  8. About the skipping thing…I skipped first grade and therefore was always younger than my classmates. I’m not sure if skipping her in preschool would have this same effect- would she start kindergarten early or just be in preschool for longer at an advanced level? Anyway, I’d love to talk more about how I feel it’s affected me, etc. I had a fall birthday which made things easier, after 2nd grade I barely ever ever thought about being young again…except for when all my friends were 16 and then 21 and I had to wait. Anyway, email me if you want to talk through it or anything. I’ve been crazy busy lately and haven’t been around much, but I think of you and yours often!
